FIFA World Cup 2022 | Match 17 | Iran Score Retribution after England’s Defeat. Beat Wales 2-0 to Move up the Ranks in Much Needed Win – FIFA WORLD CUP QATAR 2022

FIFA World Cup 2022 | Match 17 | Iran Score Retribution after England’s Defeat. Beat Wales 2-0 to Move up the Ranks in Much Needed Win

We have finally entered the phase of the FIFA World Cup 2022 where the participating teams have begun to play their second match of the tournament. In the first such encounter, we saw Iran take on Wales in the 17th match of FIFA 2022 at the Ar Rayyan Stadium, which saw the fighting Iranians clinch a much needed 2-0 victory.

The match kicked off with both teams fighting to make it to the Round of 16. The Irani men begin to take charge early with several close attempts to get the scoreboard ticking. They maintained maximum ball possession for the majority of the first half to ensure that they can create as many scoring opportunities as possible, clearly showing their intent that they are not willing to leave the tournament so early.

The first 10-20 minutes of the match saw several goal attempts. In the 16th minutes, Iran seemd to scored their first goal when Ali Gholizadeh runs into the box to take a superb passand sent it into the goal. The coach and fans are delighted, but a VAR check confirms that Gholizadeh was offside, and the goal is denied. Minutes 34-40 saw more of nudges and fouls by both teams as Wales had begun to feel the pressure being created by Iran. The Iranian coach will be please with the way his boys have been playing.

5 minutes were added to the first half, and in the desperation to score, Joe Rodon of Wales hauled down Iran Captain Mehdi Taremi for which he is slapped a Yellow card by the referee. The first half ends with both teams standing goalless at 0-0.

As we kicked off the second half, Iran continued from where they left, continuing with the dominant gameplay, not allowing Wales too much opportunity to play with tbe ball. Iran kept creating several opportunies in the form of corner kicks, free kicks and direct shots at the goal, but unfortunately were not being able to convert. Waled were clearly struggling to keep up with the pace of the Iranian team. Over 75 minutes have passed, and the Iranians have been all over team Wales.

A series of substitutions followed, after which Wales seemingly shifted gears and started am attack on the Iranian goal with back to back attempts to score till the 85th minute, until the unwanted happened. The first red card of the match is issued to Wales goalkeeper Hennessey aggressively took down Taremi, who was coming through for a goal. He was first given a yellow, but after a VAR review, the referee gave him a red card instead, sending him off the field.

13 minutes were then added after 90 minutes, which finally saw a couple of gamechanging moments. 8 minutes into extra time, Roozbeh Cheshmi scored a stunning shot from 20 yards to give his team a much needed lead in the closing moments of the match. To make things even worse for Wales, 3 minutes later Ramin Reazeian coolly dinked the ball through into the goal to seal the fate of his team and push the scoreboard to an irreversible 2-0 lead.
