FIFA World Cup 2022 | Match 45 | Quickfire Goals by De Arpascaeta Give Uruguay a 2-0 Win Over Ghana.

Uruguay and Ghana squared off in the last Group H encounter of FIFA 2022, and the defending world champions prevailed over the continent’s heavyweights. De Arrascaeta scored twice for his group as Uruguay defeated Ghana by a score of 2-0. The striker gave his team an early lead in the first half by scoring the game’s first goal in the 26th minute. This was followed by Arrascaeta’s second goal in the 32nd minute, giving Uruguay a commanding 2-0 lead already in the first half.

If the on-field official had given Uruguay a penalty when Daniel Amartey of Ghana brought down Darwin Nunez inside the penalty area in the 57th minute, they might have scored their third goal. To the dismay of the players, their manager, and the spectators, German referee Daniel Siebert refused to award them the penalty and, despite repeated requests from the Uruguayan players for the VAR to overturn the ruling, he insisted that play continue.

For Suarez’s team, this denied penalty could have changed the outcome because, had it been awarded and scored, Uruguay would have surpassed South Korea on goal differential and advanced to the round of 16. The final result of the game, which showed 2-0 in favor of Uruguay, shows that such did not occur.

Despite winning, Uruguay was unable to advance past the group stage, and the players were furious that Daniel Siebert had stopped a potential penalty. The Uruguayan players engaged into a physical altercation with Siebert at the conclusion of the game, chasing, pushing, and even verbally insulting the official up to the tunnel, causing a big uproar in the process. Jose Maria Gimenez and Edinson Cavani were two of the players who received yellow cards for their inappropriate behavior during the post-game brawl.

Despite a valiant effort on their part, the two-time world champions were unable to advance to the knockout rounds as both Uruguay and Ghana were eliminated from the competition. The post-game commotion caused a massive uproar on social media as recordings of irate Uruguay players abusing fans verbally and physically went viral. Edinson Cavani, Diego Godin, José Mara Giménez, and Fernando Muslera are the four Uruguayan players who have been formally charged by FIFA for their offensive conduct.

Luis Suarez, the captain of Uruguay, started crying after his team’s World Cup elimination. The heartbreaking exit of his squad at FIFA 2022, which marked his final appearance for Uruguay on the World Cup stage, devastated the man. A sight that would stir the soul of every true football fan!

Tablemates from the other half of the group, South Korea and Portugal, also advanced to the round of 16, after the Koreans defeated Ronaldo’s team by a score of 2-1. At the conclusion of the Group H games, Portugal tops the standings, followed by South Korea in second place, Uruguay in third place, and Ghana in fourth place.
